Under 18 year olds

Supported Accommodation

There are various supported accommodation projects (including Foyers) across Lincolnshire.  You have your own room but have adults in the property supporting you.  You need to be in education or training for most of the projects.  People who are under 18 are not legally able to hold their own tenancy so they will often be referred to supported accommodation projects.

Over 18

For those who are over 18 there are a number of options if you want to move out of home.

Renting a property in the private rented sector

This involves signing a 6 month tenancy with a landlord and paying rent each month.  Some landlords advertise their properties through letting agents.  If you find a property you can afford you will have to pay money for credit checks and application fees as well as a months rent in advance.  You will also need money for a deposit which is security for the landlord.  The deposit is secured in a government scheme, further details can be found by following this link.  This is used if you were to cause damage to the property and then the landlord pays for the damage you caused through the deposit that has been secured.

Buying a property

If you are working you have the option of buying a property through a variety of options.  Owning outright, New Build Homebuy or options such as rent to buy.   Rent to buy is where you rent the property for a period of time and then this money is used towards a deposit at the end of the term.  There are only selected properties in the county available but your local district council housing team will know the locations.

Social housing

This is an option for some young people but your choice of property will be restricted.  If you are a single person you would only be able to apply for one bedroom flats in most areas as priority would often be given to persons with children or health problems.  As a single person you may be waiting some time in certain areas of Lincolnshire for social housing.  Further details can be found at your local council office
