Exercise

Exercise and healthy eating go hand in hand. Everyone needs to regularly exercise to keep healthy. It keeps your body working, builds up your fitness, increases your energy levels, helps you maintain a healthy weight and can reduce tension and stress. This can all have a really positive effect on your self esteem and confidence.

There are lots of ways to exercise - you don’t need to join a gym or use a wii fit. You could go to a local evening class - they are often the cheapest way of going to keep fit, yoga or dance and can be a good way of meeting new people.  There are also many types of exercise that don’t cost a thing. How about taking the dog for a long walk or going for a jog? It might be a case of trying out several activities before you find one that really suits you.

If you find an activity you like, you’re more likely to stay fit simply because exercise becomes a part of your daily routine and something you look forward to. You’ll definitely get more out of it exercising if you do something you enjoy.

If you’re under 18 it’s recommended that you do at least an hour’s physical activity each day to keep fit and healthy.  You don’t have to do it all in one go, the hour could be split into shorter chunks of time throughout the day.  The activities you do should increase your heart rate, make you feel warmer and make your breath more heavily than normal.
