Partnership Work In Action

The Lincolnshire Smoke Free Homes project is based within Public Health, a Lincolnshire NHS and Lincolnshire County Council partnership.

The project aims are to:

  • Increase awareness of the health risks associated with second hand smoke
  • Encourage residents to place smoking restrictions within their home
  • Promotes the services offered by its partners including the Lincolnshire Fire Service, The Phoenix Stop Smoking Service and Smoke Free Lincs Alliance and SureStart.

Lincolnshire Smoke Free Homes offers its applicants direct referral to the Lincolnshire Fire Service for a free home fire safety check and to the NHS Phoenix Stop Smoking Service for a stop smoking advisor to contact them directly.

Working in partnership with these services has been highly successful for all involved.  Smoke Free Homes provides convenient and easy access for communities throughout the county to a number of important services.  Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue, Phoenix and SureStart can make a difference to the health and lives of those taking part in the scheme.

To date the project has been able to refer over 5000 homes to the fire service for a free home fire safety check. Additionally, it has referred over 1,000 people to the NHS Phoenix Stop Smoking Service and 164.families have been put in contact with SureStart.

Countywide, over 18,500 homes have made a Smoke Free Homes Promise, the majority of which have been at the Gold level   The benefits of eliminating smoking in the home are numerous and we therefore encourage everyone to make their home and cars smoke free.

We believe that this project is an excellent example of partnership working and hope that these partnerships go from strength to strength.
