A Tobacco Control Programme for Lincolnshire

Smokefree Lincs was formed in November 1995 following a successful bid for funding to the Department of Health. However, the group had not met for some time, due in part to Health Service reorganisations in Lincolnshire, in part to significant ‘fall-out’ of membership and to not having dedicated support.

Early in 2002 it was agreed that the Public Health section of the Health Service would pilot a joint programme with the Community Development unit of Lincolnshire County Council, forming the Healthy Communities Team, based within Lincolnshire Development of Beech House, Lincoln. The overall aim of the team is to work in partnership with individuals, communities, agencies and government to improve the health and well-being of everyone in Lincolnshire.

In an effort to work more cohesively it was suggested that a County Council staff member be identified to co-ordinate the activities of Smokefree Lincs Alliance. The group was reconvened on Wednesday, 21 August 2002, with the purpose of leading the process of developing and implementing Lincolnshire’s Tobacco Control Programme and Smoking Cessation Action Plan.
