Camera Visibility

In Lincolnshire the cameras operate under the ‘Netting Off’ guidelines for safety camera operation. A significant element of this scheme is the rules of visibility for cameras. The guidelines aim to help change driver behaviour by making them aware of the camera locations so that motorists slow down through these sites. The scheme rules state that:
- The static camera housings must be yellow
- The cameras must be visible, not hidden, from 60m in 40mph or less areas and 100m elsewhere
- Mobile operators must wear high visibility clothing when operating outside of the vehicle
- The enforcement vehicles must be clearly marked
- There must be camera warning signs no more than 1km before the camera site
- Signs must only be installed where enforcement takes place
- Site locations must be widely publicised.
Whilst we strive to adhere to these rules and guidelines at all times, it is important to appreciate that they are not statutory requirements and, as such, non-compliance does not provide for any mitigation or defence for an offence committed by a driver in breach of current UK law.
