Key Stage 1-2 Traffic Education
Cycle Training:
Bike Wise is a basic cycle training scheme which, subject to the consent of the Head Teacher and the availability of suitable volunteer trainers, is available to all Junior/Primary schools. The aim of the course is: To improve the competency levels of young cyclists by providing them with skills and knowledge to become safer and considerate road users.
Pedestrian Training:
The programme known as Linc Walking is now a well-established and successful child pedestrian training scheme. The aim of the course is to provide Key Stage 1 (5-7 year olds) pupils with skills and knowledge to make decisions about where, when and how to cross the road safely.
Walking Bus:
The Walking Bus comprises two volunteer parents/carers who act as “driver” and “conductor” and escort a line of children on their journey to school. They walk along a designated route collecting pupils at “bus stops” on the way. Since it is powered by good old-fashioned legwork, it not only promotes healthy exercise but has the potential to reduce vehicular traffic and the associated pollution near the school gate.
