Collision Investigation

In Lincolnshire, collision investigation is carried out by specialist Police Collision and Forensic Collision Investigators, who are located within LRSP.

Officers are required to investigate every fatal, or “likely to prove” fatal collision. This is an unenviable role, carried out at any time of day or night, often in an inhospitable environment and in the most horrendous of circumstances.

The investigations conducted and the evidence provided to Courts by these officers has to be of the highest professional standard. It must also withstand rigorous cross examination to ensure that those who are responsible for causing death or serious injury to others are brought to justice.

Some recent examples where the work of the Collision Investigators has led to successful prosecutions are given below:

  • 8th May 2005 Quebec Road, Mablethorpe .Three vehicle collision. Pedestrian killed. Driver of offending vehicle sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 10 years.
  • 24th July 2005 London Road, Boston .Car and pedestrian involved. Driver of offending vehicle sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 10 years.
  • 15th August 2005 Roman Bank,Skegness. Car and pedestrian involved. Driver of offending vehicle sentenced to 4.5 years imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 7 years.
  • 24th September 2005 B1188 Branston. Two vehicle collision. Mother and daughter killed in non offending vehicle. Driver of offending vehicle sentenced to 6 years imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 10 years.
