This tells the story of Arturas Gilys, the driver of a car that collided with a van on the A1 near Grantham.
The driver (a foreigner to England) had already been disqualified from driving in 2008 for drink driving. He was still banned when he drove his car on the wrong side of the duel carriageway.
He did not have insurance.
His passenger (his friend and cousin) died.
The driver and passenger of the van he hit were seriously injured.
His injuries were so extensive he was deemed ‘not fit’ to stand trial.
The legal limit for alcohol in blood is 80mg per 100ml.
The driver, Arturas, measured 164mg per 100ml. TWICE the legal limit.
He has no recollection of the collision and refuses to believe his cousin is dead.
Due to the severity of his injuries, it is unlikely he will ever work or drive again.
