Bituminous Material Testing
Lincs Laboratory is widely acknowledged as working at the forefront of UK advancements in bituminous materials technology. In 1983 it was one of the first laboratories to develop and introduce an air voids specification for end product workmanship monitoring. This service continues to be in high demand and is undertaken to the latest European Standard methods.
Lincs Laboratory offers a broad range of tests on bituminous materials and products. We can perform routine compliance testing on bituminous materials, binders and emulsions used in highway pavement applications. In addition we can perform tests on bituminous cores removed from the pavement to determine “end product” compliance and life expectancy or as part of an investigation to assess pavement condition.
Bituminous material tests that Lincs Laboratory performs include: -
Core Testing
- Description/Logging Of Cores
- Core Density & Air Void Content
Bituminous Mixtures
- Binder Content & Grading of Mineral Aggregate
- Maximum Density
Bituminous Binders & Emulsions
- Recovery of Bitumen Binders
- Penetration & Softening Point
- Water & Binder Content or Road Emulsions
- Viscosity of Road Emulsions
Advice on all aspects of bituminous material classification, suitability, quality and source approval and material failure & investigation can be obtained from our Materials Engineering Consultancy team.
