Lincs Laboratory’s Materials Engineers have knowledge and experience built up over many years.  Our expertise continually develops as we evaluate new techniques and familiarise ourselves with the latest construction materials and manage the changes necessitated by the evolution of European and Other Standards.

Our Materials Engineering Team provide a wide range of specialist services to Lincolnshire County Council and other clients including:

Project Management

Lincs Laboratory Materials (and Pavement) Consultancy staff carry out comprehensive project management service for all of Lincolnshire’s major strategic road maintenance schemes, Section 38 and Section 278 works in the county.  We work in conjunction with our site and laboratory services sections to commission sampling and testing of materials from major works.  End product workmanship testing including coring, texture depth and longitudinal profile are also carried out.  Advice and comments regarding compliance and specifications are provided to clients, including the project supervisors of Lincolnshire County Council’s Technical Services Partnership.

Roving Sampling

Spot sampling and testing is also commissioned for divisional works on a random basis to check material specification and workmanship.

New Material Trials

All materials and techniques new to use within Lincolnshire are put through evaluation, which may include trials to test their suitability of application within the county.  Materials Consultancy manage these trial sites and feedback the information gathered about the new products to corporate and divisional colleagues via the county’s Highways Standards Group, other forums and trial reports.

Recycling

With ongoing pressure on the reduction of the use of ‘virgin’ materials, the Materials Consultancy look after the proposed use of recycled materials for their suitability for use and compliance to relevant specifications, some of which are developed by Lincs Laboratory.

Approved Suppliers List

Within Lincolnshire, the Materials Team manage the County Council’s Approved Materials and Suppliers List and also provide specialist advice for, and the development of specifications and Codes of Practice.
