Habitat creation

In addition to protecting and managing existing habitats it is important that habitats are buffered, extended and linked to reduce habitat fragmentation and create corridors for wildlife to spread out from these source populations and move across the landscape. Within the Limewoods area local farmers and landowners have planted more than 20km of new hedgerows and 100 hectares of new woodland to extend and join up existing woodland in the area. This joining up of woodlands allows species to travel, helping butterflies like the brown hairstreak and speckled wood deal with climate change.
