Red carpet roll-out for fire safety DVD
Seventeen years after Freddy and Filbert first lit up the big screen, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has revived the characters in a brand new film.
The fire extinguishers are back in Freddy and Filbert’s Escape Plan 2: The Refill, which premiered at the Lincoln Odeon.
Representatives from other fire services, trade press and the media attended the launch as well as two classes of Year 2 students from Lincolnshire schools.
On arrival, they were greeted by Freddy, Filbert and Penelope for hugs, high-fives and photos before being offered refreshments and seated in the cinema for the first ever showing of the film.
The excitement in the cinema peaked as the lights dimmed and the familiar Freddy and Filbert theme tune played. Throughout the film, the audience chuckled at the fire extinguishers’ antics and listened closely to the fire safety advice.
Applause filled the cinema once the film finished and Lincolnshire’s Chief Fire Officer Dave Ramscar thanked the Service staff who contributed to the making of the film, Working Pictures for producing it, and the Odeon for hosting the launch.
He said: “These memorable characters will teach children in Lincolnshire and all over the country about the importance of having a smoke alarm, practising fire safety and having an escape plan, and that this will help them prevent fires and escape safely if one occurs.
“We also hope that other fire services will see it as a valuable and effective tool to add to their existing community fire safety resource kits.”
Mrs Anna Shepherd, Assistant Head at the Caistor Church of England Primary School, praised the film, saying: “The film was absolutely fantastic. The children totally engaged with it – and more importantly they were able to answer the questions at the end, showing that they’d absorbed the messages.
“The film was pitch-perfect, both entertaining and informative, and coming to the launch was a wonderful opportunity for us – the kids all loved meeting the characters and overall, it’s been a fantastic event.”
