Anita Moore, British Red Cross Service Co-ordinator for the Fire and Emergency Support Service (FESS) in Lincolnshire, has been recognised as one of the country’s top mums.

Anita was one of three women recognised by Channel 5’s Marvellous Mums competition, launched on the show Live with Gabby.

She was nominated by her daughter, Francesca Stanley, who, in a written submission to the show’s producers, praised her mum’s work with FESS and her generosity in helping others – even when this meant missing out on special family occasions.

Francesca, 21, said: “The service runs 365 days a year; my mum has often missed part of Christmas because she’s helped people who have had house fires on Christmas morning.

“She is so generous with her time, especially in FESS, comforting those who have had horrible things happen to them.”

The submission also went on to describe how the FESS team helped provide food, water and vital supplies to residents affected by the severe winter weather in 2010.

It also highlighted Anita’s contribution to the Welfare Support Team.

Francesca then praised Anita’s accomplishments as a mum, adding: “Her work life aside, all my life, my mum has been amazing. She does so much for us on a daily basis.”

As her prize, Anita and Francesca will have a day out in London comprising an appointment with a celebrity hairdresser, a beauty makeover, £1,000 high street vouchers, a champagne afternoon tea and a year’s supply of Procter and Gamble products.

Anita said: “I’m really chuffed and honoured; it was lovely to know that my daughter appreciates what I do, because my family have had to pick up the flack when I’ve been called out.

“Knowing they appreciate me makes it all worthwhile, but to then be nationally recognised was the icing on the cake. The submission brought me to tears; I’m not known for being overly-emotional, but this really touched me.”
