Delay Training (Train the Trainer Course)

Target group

A one-day training course for all professionals working with young people, primarily for those aged 13 to 19 but this training can be adapted to work with younger children.


To provide participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to plan and deliver Delay training to empower young people and raise self esteem by reducing risk taking behaviour.


To understand the role played by media and peer pressure on young people

To explore a range of practical ways of working with young people to help them to make positive and healthy decisions for themselves

To gain skills to hand on to young people on how to say ‘no’ and resist peer pressure

To focus on alternatives to having sex, e.g. exploring intimacy and sensuality in non sexual ways

Considers the role played by friendship, supportive adults and professionals

To try out ways of building young people’s self esteem

To share methodologies and insights drawn from our own experiences

To consider, clarify and recognise the values we bring to this work

To plan ways in which to implement the course learning, how to integrate these approaches into all aspects of practice and how to present and develop this work with young people.  (This course will be delivered in an active and participatory way to model good practice.)
