“A Curious Journey” is a healthy relationships education programme designed in consultation with students, teachers and parents in 7 primary schools across Lincolnshire.

The programme has been  commissioned by the Lincolnshire Teenage Pregnancy Team following growing evidence that unplanned teenage pregnancies are linked to behaviours and attitudes formed in earlier years.

The programme uses the themes and characters of Alice in Wonderland to sensitively explore the challenges faced by young people in Year 6.  The experience aims to raise self-esteem, dispel myths and misconceptions around growing up, the changes to come and to promote informed choices.

Having taken part in the performance and workshop, pupils have the opportunity to develop their own performances to deliver key messages to their peers and to parents.  The programme links directly with the Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum for Key Stage 2.

Man Up was commissioned and developed by the Teenage Pregnancy Team as part of their county-wide strategy to provide innovative sex and relationships education for young people aged 13 – 18 years.

By consulting with young people across Lincolnshire, Man Up was created to challenge teenage misconceptions about sex and relationships.  They shared stories and honest opinions, feelings and experiences that informed the script produced by Zest Theatre.

The production gives the audience a chance to explore difficult issues in a fun and accessible way. Two best mates discover what it takes to be a real man via an emotional minefield of hormones, girls, sex, insecurity and confusion.

Having seen the play, students have the opportunity to take part in a workshop and teachers are provided with a teaching pack to continue with the work in school as part of their Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum.

Man Up will tour secondary schools and youth groups from 9th February – 27th March 2015.
