During an Inspection

How long an inspection lasts depends on the size and complexity of the service. The inspection of services for children in need of help and protection, children looked after and care leavers will be conducted over a period of 11 working days.

The lead Inspector will firstly meet with the Director of Children’s Services or site manager to develop an agenda for the remainder of their stay. The agenda will incorporate time for scrutiny of case files, interviews with Local Authority employees, interviews with Service Users/family members and key members who play a significant role in their lives and opportunity for observation of practice.

By the conclusion of Inspection, the Ofsted team will have developed a clear understanding of how service is delivered within the authority and be able to identify where there is evidence of good practice, as well as areas requiring development. Oral feedback will be delivered to the Senior Management Team around information collected, together with informal delivery of the final judgment.
