About Local Authority Inspection

Local Authorities are required by statutory law to participate in a range of Inspections which are co-ordinated and audited by the Office of Standards in Education (OFSTED). Inspections are conducted to maintain a level of high expectation and serve two main purposes.

Firstly to ensure public, and publicly funded, services are accountable to government and taxpayers for the quality of what they deliver and secondly, to support with the continuous improvement of those services.

Ofsted supports services to improve by highlighting both where things are going well and where improvements are most needed. Both Inspections received a final judgment of Outstanding. In November 2014 LCC hosted and inspection in relation to its services for children in need of help and protection, children looked after and care leavers. The final inspection report was published in January 2015.
