Quality Assurance Process Overview

Quality Assurance (QA) reviews are undertaken in addition to a range of other statutory or core performance and quality measures already in place. They are undertaken by the Quality Development Team and aim to not only recommend areas for improvement but also highlight areas of good practice.

To ensure QA reviews are as effective and developmental as possible it is important that the scope is well defined, realistic and agreed with the service area. The Lead QA Development Officer will then engage with the service area throughout the review enabling the service area to help shape the review and inform the final report.

Quality reviews can be categorised as either:

  • Scheduled - a review which is scheduled relates to those which have been agreed as part of the annual QA schedule by DMT.
  • Additional - an additional review is likely to be commissioned by DMT in response to a critical situation or event.
The QA schedule is produced on an annual basis and covers the work of the QA Team for the following 12 months. The latest QA schedule is available to download below.

Following a QA Review a final report is produced containing any recommendations for improvement. Actions are then identified by the service area lead in relation to the recommendations put forward which are then subsequently presented to DMT for agreement. Once agreed by DMT the actions are then tracked through the Improvement Plan.
