Developing the Community Developers Event

Developing the Community Developers: how can we share best practice, resources and information to make the most of Community Developmentqualifications?

Date: 26 April 2012, 9:30 – 13:30 – ICCA, Nottingham

Is your organisation ready for Community Learning Trusts? Are your staff and volunteers trained and ready to listen to the learning needs of your communities and to work with them to effectively develop and deliver learning programmes? This event will explore Community Development training and qualifications in the light of recent Community Learning government initiatives. Speakers will present the Community Development qualifications, highlight support opportunities and capacity building on offer and showcase ideas for developing training provision.

John Hayes launched theprospectus for Community Learning Trust pilots by stating that “Learning is not just for people and communities, it belongs to them and must answer to them for its success or failure. It’s time for local people to have a more powerful voice in local learning.” Those organisations considering an application to become a Community Learning Trust pilot will be expected to show how local people are taking a lead in learning & development. Listening to learners and delivering effective community based projects takes specific skills and this event will discuss the training, qualifications and networks on offer to support Community Development and Community Based learning activities.

The Community Development Network for the East Midlands is a forum for those working with communities to develop skills, improve facilities and increase potential. The Network events are an ideal opportunity to share ideas, tackle important topics and develop partnerships. For this reason Derbyshire Learning & Development Consortium aims to support a wide range of organisations and staff to attend the network meetings and engage through the website.  To ensure that voluntary and community sector organisations are able to attend the event we have a secured a bursary fund to pay for places.

The cost of each event is £25.00 per delegate; bursaries are available from the Community Development.  Please contact DLDC if you would like to attend but are finding the costs a barrier.

To book a place on any of these events, please contact Jenna Shaw on jenna.shaw@consortium.org.uk or 01332 265960.
