Looked After Children Home

As at the end of October 2006 of the 140,665 children in Lincolnshire 554 were ‘looked after’ by Lincolnshire County Council. Looked After Children (LAC) can also be referred to as Children in Public Care.

All children experience difficulties during the course of their childhood and adolescence.  Some circumstances however, such as bereavement, parental separation or an abusive incident can mean that the child or young person cannot be cared for in their own families (although this may be for a short period).  Before this happens though, in the majority of cases, Lincolnshire County Council Children’s Services with partner agencies will work with families to prevent this occurring, through Strengthening Families teams.

In simple terms, looked after children and young people, are children in the care of the Council, through a care order made by a court or voluntary agreement with their parent(s). They may be looked after in a children’s home, by foster carers, or other family members.
